The Belle of the Ball

You are the Belle of the Ball, the fairest of them all.

It’s true; that’s what all of the guests say.

Cinderella must confess You look better in that dress

Than she ever did on her best day.

“What glass slipper?” said Prince C. “Introduce that girl to me!

I think she winked; oh, man, I’m dyin!”

A lad made of wood said, “She’s gooder than good.

Hey, look at my nose: I ain’t lyin.”

Wide-eyed Old King Coal called for his heart and soul.

“Bring my cam’ra, too; make it snappy!”

Snow White’s mirror: “Let me see her reflection in me

One time so I may shatter happy.”

A wolf big, bad, and gruff, said, “I’ll huff and I’ll puff

‘Cause her beauty takes my breath away.”

Rip Van Winkle swore, “This was worth waking for!

There’s a Dream worth having, I must say.”

Madre Oca said, “I would, if I was twice as good,

Have a story half that nice to write.”

Jake and Wilhelm Grimm agreed neither of them

Could imagine so wondrous a sight.

A dwarf said, “I retired the first time I admired

The Belle of the Ball, God’s Valentine.

Snow Whozit must get by without me because I

Can’t be Grumpy when I feel so fine!”

And Little Boy Blue, that little boy blew

A fanfare, a real rootie-tootie,

For the greatest thing seen by Jack since those beans.

Said Beast, “I just thought I’d seen Beauty.”

Nothing, nohow, no lousy moon-jumping cow,

No golden balls or gingerbread men,

No wand, no fairy dust, no Christmas pie crust,

Can delight us like her slightest grin.

Rumpelstiltskin said, “Bless me, she’s gone to my head.

She is spinning my heart into gold.”

Hans Christian Anderdsen, said, “I’ll admit, my friend,

She’s the greatest story ever told.”

Willie Winkie stayed up late; maids in waiting could not wait

To get just one more glimpse of her charm.

Fairies and Godmothers gathered all of the others,

Then they sounded the Wa-Hoo alarm.

“We have a new Queen! She beats all I’ve ever seen!”

All throughout the land knees are bending.

There is laughter and applause; there is glee and all because

At last there is a happy ending.
