Striving versus Arriving

Happiness hollers from his porch,

“Where’s everybody going?”

We know if we’ll just ignore him

We will not have to admit to not knowing.

Contentment waits at the side of the road,

Relaxing among the trees.

While we try to run fast enough

To create a cool breeze.

No doubt, I’ve been in faster lanes,

And that’s a good place to be

For someone who is running away,

But that’s no longer me.

This peaceful River has been fed

By many reckless streams.

If this is as good as it ever gets,

It’s beyond my wildest dreams.
